About

MRD's story

I grew up in San Francisco, watching tech reshape the city in real time. While my tech reporting career kicked off in Los Angeles and later led me to Business Insider in New York, I found my way back to San Francisco, covering the tech industry at TechCrunch. I spent nearly six years at TechCrunch leading the publication’s diversity and inclusion coverage, covering micromobility and autonomous vehicles, and organizing and emceeing events.

From there, I moved even closer to home by covering local news at Axios San Francisco and then at Gazetteer SF, where I covered the neighborhoods, institutions, and fault lines shaping San Francisco today, including the fight to reclaim Fillmore Street’s legacy as a Black cultural hub.

I’ve also worked the strategy side: Chief Content Officer at Backstage Capital, and director of content strategy at GrowthX AI, translating growth frameworks and product insight into content that actually works for B2B and AI clients. Different formats, but same instinct to find the human thread inside a complicated story and then make it land.
